What Is Silver Diamine Fluoride?
SDF is a liquid solution made up of silver (which has antibacterial properties) and fluoride (which strengthens enamel). When applied to a decayed area, it kills harmful bacteria and hardens the tooth structure, effectively stopping the cavity from getting worse.

What to Expect
The SDF application is quick and painless. We’ll begin by drying the affected area. A small amount of SDF is then carefully applied to the cavity and allowed to sit briefly before being dried or rinsed. It's important to note that the treated area may darken and turn black as the decay is neutralized—this is a normal and expected result of the treatment.
While it may not be the final solution for every cavity, SDF offers a safe and effective way to conservatively buy time or manage decay.
